The Chatrium Royal Lake Yangon Hotel is at a great location. Right on the shore of the Kandawgyi Lake and not too far from the Shwedagon Pagoda – a 10 minute drive sans traffic.
My stay at the hotel was not perfect, but very good provided that it is in Yangon. Some complaints:
1) The hotel is very popular – not just for its rooms but also for hosting functions. For the 3 nights I stayed at the hotel, there was a “thankful party” of sorts at the poolside, a day full of weddings and a conference. The music was loud and can be clearly heard from my Pagoda-view room on a relatively high floor. Either sound insulation was poor or the music was too loud. Fortunately on all nights music stopped around 10pm, so wasn’t too much of a bother.
2) The bed was too soft – as in the mattress was old and the middle is sagging. The room had nice, new flat screen TV with thin bezel – I’d rather they get new mattress instead.
Other than that, the room was clean, modern and comfortable. The bathroom was clean. Even the bath seemed clean, although I did not use it. Interestingly the lift lobbies felt rather old – maybe the rooms have been renewed?
Should I go to Yangon again I wouldn’t hesitate to stay at Chatrium Royal Lake.
