We were fortunate that our group arrived at Fort Augustus rather early and we did not hesitate to head for lunch immediately – the place was soon packed with hungry tourists but was practically empty when we first arrived.
The problem is that there Fort Augustus is tiny with only a few restaurants, but the place is a must-see for most tour groups due to its Loch Ness view. Fort Augustus is at the south-west tip of Loch Ness. Naturally all restaurants get rather busy when these tour groups arrive.
The Lock Inn is just a normal pub. It serves mostly standard beer, with only one cask ale option that is more local. Food are mostly pub grub like fish and chips or curry, but they also served one delicious cullen skink (a special). Good honest food.
As we have not tried any of the other restaurants at Fort Augustus, it is not possible to compare. We were however satisfied with our meal here.
