For us, Dandy Tianjin is proof that you don’t need a 5-star hotel to have a very enjoyable stay. Of course, if you look for luxurious rooms, jacuzzi, seaview, huge rooms, swimming pools or spas, you will be disappointed. Yet, the very friendly staff and neatly designed rooms (some with special designs!) more than compensates for the lack of luxury.
This was our second stay at Dandy Tianjin (yes, we liked it so much last time that we decided to stay here again when we decided to come to Taipei again). The hotel is located on Tianjin Street, about 5 minutes walk from the nearest Zhongshan Station, which has an underground shopping street that leads all the way to Taipei Station. There are also a number of restaurants nearby, including a decent udon place and an excellent Japanese eel rice joint.
What impressed us most was the friendless of the young and energetic staff, who managed to still recognize us after we have spent a few days in Hualian. And the sparkling wine they gifted to us after they’ve learnt that we were in Taiwan for our pre-wedding photo shoot! A shame that we didn’t get to drink it as the day was so exhausting.
The rooms were very comfortable, with ample space and comfortable bed. Visitors should note, though, that the bathroom door is glass with only the middle section translucent — the top and bottom are transparent. Not a problem at all for us, but should be noted for those travelling with friends.
Overall, the experience was a very pleasant one, and we will not hesitate to stay here again when we visit Taipei in the future.
